Irish Ambassador to the Czech Republic paid a visit to the President of the Constitutional Court

Yesterday afternoon, the President of the Constitutional Court, Josef Baxa, received the Irish Ambassador to the Czech Republic, Alan Gibbons, for a courtesy visit. Ambassador Gibbons took up his current post in August last year. He previously held a number of positions at the Department of Foreign Affairs in Dublin (Irish Foreign Ministry) and at Irish diplomatic missions (e.g. to Denmark, the United States and the United Nations in New York).

The meeting at the Constitutional Court naturally focused on topics related to the judiciary and the protection of constitutionality. These topics were discussed in both national and European context. Although the Czech Republic and Ireland are separated by a considerable geographical distance (from a European perspective), the two countries have very friendly relations and both are integrated within the European legal area.

At the end of his visit, His Excellency toured the Constitutional Court, which is one of the most remarkable buildings in Brno.
